Our Approach to Learning
At Tic Tocs Nursery in Exeter, learning is shaped around each child, with our CHRICK values (Confident, Happy, Respectful, Independent, Curious, and Kind) guiding everything we do. From the very beginning, we focus on building strong, caring relationships and following each child’s individual routine, helping them feel safe and secure. Babies explore through a range of sensory and open-ended experiences, giving them the freedom to discover the world in their own way while building strong early foundations for their Tic Tocs journey. As children grow, communication and friendships become a key focus, supported through story sacks, singing, role play, and activities that help them understand and express big emotions using tools like face cards, emotion stories, and emotion stones.
As children move through the nursery, they are encouraged to develop their independence, confidence, and sense of self. They begin to make choices, share their ideas, and take part in a balance of child-led and adult-guided activities, such as group story times and early learning experiences. Along the way, they build key skills like recognising their name, shapes, and numbers, all through play and meaningful interactions. At every stage, we create a warm, supportive environment where children feel valued, inspired, and ready to learn.

A Typical Day
At Tic Tocs, every day is shaped by the children, their interests, and the rich mix of cultures within our community. With around 20 languages spoken by families and staff, our learning is naturally influenced by the diverse backgrounds of the children who attend.
